VALENTINE'S DAY – EARLY MORNING

"It's a card, Ray."

"Yes, Benny."

"A Valentine's Day card."

"Yes, Benny."

"You've signed it."

"So?"

"Aren't Valentine's cards meant to be anonymous?"

"Well, yes. But we live together, Benny."

"Ah."

"Ah, what?"

"Nothing. I'm afraid I didn't buy you a card, Ray."

"No worries, Benny. It's sentimental nonsense anyway."

LATER THAT NIGHT

"I'm home, Benny."

Silence greeted him.

Frowning Ray went into their bedroom. On his pillow rested a Valentine card; it was beautifully and intricately carved in wood.

As his throat constricted, strong arms went around him. "I said I didn't buy you a card, Ray," Benny murmured.

Ray kissed him.
