Hawkeye finally gets what he wants, but he knows there'll be no happy ever after.

A first time story.

Written: March 2009. Word count: 200.

Hawkeye gazed at the man who now slept in his arms.

The man he'd exhausted through loving.

The man he'd wanted from the moment he'd first seen him.

The man who had become his closest friend, someone to drink with, laugh with, talk to, save lives with, his partner in crime, and just occasionally his conscience.

The man he soon grew to love, not just want.

If he was honest he had never thought the day would come when BJ Hunnicutt would succumb to him, but that night he had.

However, even as he smiled at the memory of BJ's mouth on his, the way it parted for him, the way it invited him inside, recalled his hands on his body, could still hear the way he called out his name as completion overtook him, the pain started to seep into him.

There could be no 'happy ever after'. At least not for them.

One day the war would end and they would leave this Godforsaken hell.

They would leave.

He would go back to Crabapple Cove and his dad.

And BJ? BJ would go back to Peg and Erin.

Yes, he'd won - but in truth his victory was hollow.

Peace Comes At A Cost is the companion piece to this story.
