THE FINAL HURDLE

It's been six months since Tim and Gibbs got together and everything is going well. Except Tim has one reservation.

An established relationship story.

Written: June 2009. Word count: 300.

There were days when Tim still couldn't quite believe it. Couldn't believe what had happened. He and Jethro (he always made a point of thinking of him and calling him 'Jethro' not 'Gibbs' because 'Gibbs' meant 'boss' and he didn't want to go there) had been lovers for six months and they were growing closer each day.

Since they weren't working together, Tim had seen a different side to Jethro. He was still very much the Leroy Jethro Gibbs Tim had always known and loved, but he had a softer side to him as well. The side Tim knew only Ducky and Abby had hitherto ever seen.

Ducky. He was the one 'issue' Tim had, and he didn't really know what to do. It was putting a barrier between Jethro and himself, he knew it. At least it was making him hold back a little and he was sure Jethro must have noticed it. And if they were going to remain as lovers and get closer, he had to overcome it.

He knew all about Shannon and Kelly; Marie, Diane and Stephanie; even about Jenny (now that'd really surprised him) Hollis Mann and a handful of others. To his surprise it had been Jethro who had spoken of them. But he'd never spoken about Ducky and his relationship with him.

And Tim knew how close they had been. How Ducky must have been Jethro's last serious lover. So why hadn't Jethro spoken about Ducky to him? Part of Tim feared that he was just a substitute for Ducky. That Jethro had gone to him because -

He couldn't live like this any longer. He had to ask. He was going to Jethro's that night, he spent most of his nights there, he would ask him. He would ask him about Ducky.
