WALK BY MOONLIGHT

Operating is over for the day.
A first time story.
Written: October 2007. Word count: 100.

The moon was shining when we left the operating room.

It'd been shining when we went in - twenty-four hours before.

Somehow I knew it would be tonight.

He knew too. I could sense that.

We walked side-by-side, arms brushing one another, away from the camp.

We stopped.

We turned to face one another.

"I can't," he said. "I'm sorry, Hawk, I can't."

I opened my mouth to say it was all right. I understood.

But instead, I found myself pulled into his arms. "I can't deny it any longer," he said.

And he kissed me.

The moon went on shining.
